Juneteenth Celebration

The Juneteenth Celebration is designed to heighten awareness of the process leading to the complete freedom of slaves and particularly the arrival of General Gordon Grainger and his Union Troops in Galveston Texas on June 19th 1865. It was not until then that news that the war was over and slaves were indeed free reached all segments of our country. Communities of color have celebrated this date with excitement and joyful fellowship and activities ever since. In fact most major metropolitan areas of our nation have civic celebrations of the event every year on or near June 19th.

Our celebration will be held Saturday June 16th from 11am – 2pm @ West End Park. It will consist of a cookout including a fish fry, games, music, and a spirited atmosphere. This event is free to the public. Our annual laptop presentation will be awarded to the graduating minority senior with the greatest GPA. Please come out and have a great time.
